LaVonne Pepe was hired as the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s first Senior Advisor on Gender-Based Violence within the newly established Office on Gender-Based Violence. In this role, she worked to ensure that survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking could access their housing rights under the Violence Against Women Act. The office took two years to establish and staff, but in February 2025, shortly after starting, she was terminated along with thousands of other early-tenure federal employees. With nearly 15 years of experience driving social impact, LaVonne holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park.
