Join the Conversation … Or Better Yet, Help Create Them
If you are interested in writing for DCReport, we’d love to consider your ideas as part of our participatory civic media project.
We’re interested in storytelling that democratizes journalism. Whether it’s traditional news articles, opinion pieces, video commentary, political cartoons or other creative media that can tell the stories that matter to you and your community, we’d love to see it. For us, it’s about providing the opportunity to contribute to the national debate, and empower our readers so they can take action and make their voices heard.
Subjects can be local, statewide, or national – as long as they feel fresh, relevant, and have nationwide significance. We encourage writers from all backgrounds to submit, but we are particularly interested in writers from typically underrepresented communities, and/or stories that are impacting those same communities.
We expect you to follow core investigative principles of diligent reporting, fact-checking, and fairness. Please adhere to AP style guidelines.
Although most of our writers are volunteers, small honorariums are available on a limited basis when funding allows. These range from $50 to $150, depending on various factors, and we hope to increase those if proper funding is secured. Any writer receiving an honorarium, must be providing content that has not been previously published and will not be published elsewhere for at least 90 days.
Before making any submissions, please query our editor-in-chief, Tod Hardin, at [email protected].
If you are a student or recent college graduate interested in an internship, please contact us at [email protected].
